oils on tablets

In June of 2000, I put up my exhibit of 'Oils on Tablets' at the Amos Eno Gallery in New York City. The atmosphere was enhanced with giant bubbles of text in Tapissary (my invented language of 25 years) which were painted directly onto the plaster with acrylic paint. Over these bulbous abstractions were hung some of the paintings. The 2 pillars in the gallery were also draped in text as well as the floor, onto which I laid a canvas crammed with Tapissary. To make it clear to visitors that they were supposed to walk on the canvas, I put down a sign stating that they may walk on the painting. All of the paintings in the exhibit were oils. The first thing I did in this process was to sculpt the tablets in terracotta clay, glaze the pieces, then fire them. After the ceramic process was complete, I would paint the oil compositions onto the tablets. It is a lengthy operation. This tour will take you through 5 pages of views from 'Oils on Tablets'.
