"Dipping Youth into Manuscripts" oil on canvas. 8 feet high x 16 feet long. 2004

In 2003 this painting was shown in Paris with the title "Angels cannot Fly". For my New York exhibit in 2004, I made alterations to the painting and its symbolism, then renamed it "Dipping Youth into Manuscripts". Among the many changes, Tapisreal script (see section on TAPISSARY for explanation of the language) is evident throughout the tableau; on the land, in the sky, and also discernable under the man's skin. He is indeed being lowered into a world of picture-stories where other buried youths lie subject to the tales of the calligraphic snakes. This enormous canvas which is taller than a human being, never-the-less identifies itself as a single page of a manuscript.
