Three Altars

The panel in the center "Man in Church" is an oil painted directly onto the glazed stoneware surface. The rims carry distorted figures.

To the left "Candle Bearers" is a stoneware and porcelain sculpted panel where the figures, arms outstretched, suspend a long candle with silver bezel wire. The candle is from a church in Paris, St. Augustin. I had gone to many churches in the city searching out these long tapered ones. This type is harder to find now because they are mostly replaced with the tiny votive candles. I needed this length for my panel, and lit it during the opening, and also on the last day of the exhibit.

To the right, in order to balance the altar composition is another candle, but this one is a two dimensional painting. The support surface is stoneware and porcelain. Two sculpted bearers carry a limp figure just below the 'glow' of the candle. Lower down, the scene continues with a flowing group of figures going in every which direction, and occasionally overlapping.
